DESCRIPTION The study-unit focuses on the areas: Fitness and its Assessment, Nutrition, Conditioning and Training, Prevention of Injuries and recovery, The Human Body and basic first aid. Apart from theoretical lectures, this unit provides also practical sessions in the delivery of First Aid procedures and application of first aid principles.

Study Unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at:
• Providing students with the basic and essential concepts in Nutrition;
• Providing students with the basic and essential concepts in developing Fitness and ways of assessing it;
• Providing students with basic and essential concepts in training and conditioning;
• Providing students with basic and essential concepts in injury prevention;
• Engaging students in basic first aid protocols and provision.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the study unit students will be able to:

• Apply in practice principles of basic first aid and exercises which would help prevent injury;
• Design activities which target improving strength and conditioning in young athletes;
• Structure assessment protocols to help assess the young performer.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit students will be able to:

• Reflect on differences in conditioning and training younger and older athletes;
• Plan progressive injury prevention activities and protocols;
• Plan nutritional recommendations for the young performer;
• Critically reflect on nutritional needs in relation to the sport and activity loads of the individual.
