DESCRIPTION The study-unit focuses on the areas: Coaching Philosophy, and objectives, designing the session and season plan, coaching styles and leadership, assessment, communication, coaching people with special needs and issues in inclusive education.

Study Unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at:
• Providing students with an understanding of the various coaching philosophies and coaching styles;
• Engaging students in discussion on coaching session planning and the aspects which impinge on design and preparation;
• Exposing students to the contextual frameworks related to adapted and inclusive coaching;
• Engaging students in effective communication protocols and feedback provision.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge and Understanding
By the end of the study unit students will be able to:

• Design and structure session plans which reflect a good time on task and a challenging learning experience within a positive coaching climate;
• Differentiate between the different coaching styles and pedagogies;
• Design inclusive practices and adapted activities to meet the needs and challenges of all athletes.

2. Skills
By the end of the study unit students will be able to:

• Reflect on how adaptations in sessions would help make session more inclusive;
• Critically reflect on how coaching styles impinge on performance and practices;
• Reflect on how communication skills can be improved;
• Plan and deliver inclusive session plans aligned with LTAD principles;
• Plan and reflect on inclusive practical coaching.
