DESCRIPTION This unit provides a comprehensive overview of the theory and practice of managing people within a human resource management framework. It provides the participant with the skills to understand and work with people in sport organizations and, given the significant changes in sport organizations over the past twenty years, it addresses the issues of managing organizational complexity and how human resources adds value to the organization.

The empowerment of human resources in the particular working and social environment of each organization has greater importance than the management of other resources. Empowerment is considered to be a viable means to increase the effectiveness of an organization, as well as to improve the quality of working life for employees as well as to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of organizations.

Study-unit Aims:

This unit aims to provide a comprehensive and systematic approach to the theory and practice of managing people in sport organizations. It aims to analyze how to understand and work with people in organizationally simple and complex situations within sport organization. The concept of Human Resources Management (HRM) is explored as organizational strategy having a positive impact on performance. It also aims to address the design of a strategic human resource management plan that is effective, sustainable and able to adapt to changing conditions.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- list human resources in Sport and Recreation;
- describe clients As Human Resources;
- analyze the psychology of personality;
- explain empowerment and commitment;
- analyze communication strategies in the Sport Industry.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- analyze the processes of human resource management;
- demonstrate the factors involved in human resource planning;
- explain and analyze issue relation to motivation and satisfaction in the sport context;
- compare and contrast principles and techniques of managing clashing personalities and conflict management;
- demonstrate the implementation of an appraisal system tailored for the sport organization;
- report a communications strategy including internal and external stakeholders.
