DESCRIPTION This study-unit will continue to build on the knowledge started in the Introduction Unit in first year. It will cover the response of the Human body to exercise, the Adaptations and changes in the body due to regular physical activity and exercise, and the concept of fitness and its assessment.

Study-Unit Aims:

- To enable the students with knowledge on how the body responds to exercise and physical activity;
- To assist students in understanding the physiology of fitness assessments and training programmes.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Explain the effects of exercise on physical well-being and health;
- Describe, through an essay, the relationship between health and physical activity levels.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Conduct simple performance assessments;
- Apply the physiological principles learnt to design basic exercise and training programs.
