DESCRIPTION This is the largest independent project taken by students during the course and is designed to further develop the skills and knowledge acquired in the first three semesters. Students will design a project and work on it under the supervision of a tutor who will meet them during tutorials to provide advice and support on the work being carried out. Students will plan and carry out the project, evalulate it and present it during a seminar at the end of the unit.

Study-Unit Aims:

This study-unit aims at providing students with a platform to conduct specific projects related to physical activity and sports under the guidance of a tutor. The project selected may vary in purpose and may include seminars, tournaments, or any other sport related events or physical activity intervention.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Identify and design a project that encourages physical activity and sports participation;
- Identify and learn about the stages of planning required in organising a project;
- Apply an understanding of research about interventions in physical activity and sport and the needs and wants of the population that is being targeted.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:
- Demonstrate an ability to organise large scale activities, taking into consideration various aspects including marketing, funding and sponsorship, logistics and human resources;
- Sustain a committment to this project from initiation to completion;
- Work independently under the supervision of a tutor, and reflect pre-action, in-action and post-action;
- Evaluate the project and present it during a seminar.
