DESCRIPTION | Coaching individuals from all backgrounds and all abilities is the duty of a coach. Statutory requirements for sport emphasize the importance of equity inclusion. The responsibility of educators, coaches and professionals is to provide programmes that incorporate the participants of both genders, all social backgrounds and ethnic groups, and those with special needs and impairments. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to investigate the range of inclusion and diversity challenges faced by practitioners today. The key issues of the unit will be structured around: social class; race and ethnicity; gender; sexuality; special needs; disability; and ability. These issues are discussed in relation to the principles of equity, equality of opportunity, accessibility, planning and cultural awareness. In order to develop one’s abilities, this study-units also aims to support student in gaining ability to differentiate, individualise one’s coaching in order to make sure that all are included. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will: - Classify and relate to issues of diversity and inclusion; - Apply equity and inclusion requirements; - Identify the challenges in managing a diverse group of athletes and participants. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Apply inclusion processes in the setting he/she works in; - Administer and implement an inclusive sport programme; - Employ modified games in their practice.
