DESCRIPTION Students are required to carry out a small-scale research project on a topic of their choice. Such a topic needs to be related to a specific area of physical activity and sports. Within this unit, students are to engage in a review of literature about the chosen topic, while also collecting some data in order to better understand the area being studied.

Study-Unit Aims:

- This study-unit aims to introduce students to academic research and report writing in the field of physical activity and sport.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Select the main literature related to the area of study;
- Formulate research questions related to the area of study chosen;
- Be able to make the right choices about data collection methods;
- Comprehend the process of carrying out a research project;
- Understand the basics of data collection tools and data collection processes;
- Be able to engage in analysis of data.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Critically review literature in the chosen field of study;
- Plan and design a study and manage time to complete it within the required time frame;
- Collect data to answer the research questions set;
- Analyse data collected and present a report of the result;
- Discuss the results obtained and present recommendations.
