DESCRIPTION This study-unit will give a deeper understanding of Frege's Philosophy and it's great contribution to Analytical Philosophy which finds its very roots in the text covered in this study unit. This text has been seminal both for Analytical Philosophy which dominated the Anglo-Saxon and North American Philosophy in the 2nd half of the previous century and continuous to be of great importance today, and for Symbolic Logic which has made huge advances since its pubblication, the greatest from Aristotle's time.

Study-unit Aims:

This study-unit aims to introduce students to the basic concepts in the philosophy of Frege with particular reference to specific texts so as to encourage students to think critically and to discuss the subject.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- engage critically with primary texts in Symbolic Logic and Philosophy of Language;
- analyse, through close reading, primary texts in Symbolic Logic and Philosophy of Language;
- identify and review relevant secondary literature concerning specific authors and/or themes in Symbolic Logic and Philosophy of Language;
- consolidate earlier knowledge in the field of symbolic knowledge and Philosophy of Language.

2. Skills
By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- read analytically and critically a broad selection of texts in Philosophy especially related to Analytic Philosophy;
- identify and reflect upon key concepts and discussions in Analytic Philosophy;
- engage in meaningful discussions on specific texts covered in the Unit;
- present coherent arguments related to the topics in Philosophy of Language and Symbolic Logic.
