DESCRIPTION | Students are assigned for a practical attachment to experience either application of pharmacotherapeutics, administration skills, hospital pharmacy processes or clinical analysis skills. The placement will take place in a practical scenario including hospital and pharmacy health systems. Study-unit Aims: - To provide students with an experiential placement in either clinical pharmacy, pharmacy administration, hospital pharmacy or clinical analysis. - To utilise the principles of experiential education and engagement of students in 'real-life' activities. - To describe the importance of workplace skills. - To instill the importance of competence through lifelong learning habits. - To provide basic understanding and utility of continuous professional development. - To provide appropriate leadership skills through example. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Appraise professional functions of the pharmacist within practical scenarios. - Identify characteristics of pharmacist interventions in practical scenarios. - Apply pharmaceutical knowledge to real patient care. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate a developmental level of experiential learning by analysing experiences, connecting them with theory and constructing a message from them. - Interact and communicate effectively with patients, colleagues and administrative staff. - Apply critical thinking skills. - Develop professional and ethical behavioural skills as applicable to pharmaceutical settings. - Demonstrate accountability in professional practice.
