MQF LEVEL 5

ECTS CREDITS 4

DEPARTMENT Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law

DESCRIPTION This study-unit which will delivered in the form of a seminar will be divided into two different parts. During the first part, the epistemological foundations of the use of the Bible in evangelisation and in catechesis will be developed. Here, the Word of God in Sacred Scripture is studied as the fundamental source of both evangelisation and of catechesis.
In the second part of the study-unit a more practical approach will be taken. This will be done by studying the different ways in which the Bible can be used in evangelisation and in catechesis in terms of methods which are bible-centred and how these can be used in evangelisation and catechesis in biblical ministry.

Study-Unit Aims:

The study-unit aims at showing that the Bible as the Word of God has a central and privileged position in the process of evangelisation and of catechesis. It seeks to demonstrate that the Bible is the main source for evangelisation and for catechesis. Consequently whatever is presented as the Good News in evangelisation and in catechesis needs to be solidly founded on the Word of God in the Bible. This will lead to exploring different forms of biblical ministry for evangelisation and catechesis.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. identify and comprehend the basic hermeneutic rules for the correct reading and understanding of the Bible in view of evangelisation and catechesis
2. outline and explain the primary place which the Word of God in the Bible has in the process of evangelisation and catechesis
3. demonstrate and sustain by arguments that the Bible is the main source for evangelisation
4. acknowledge that besides the Bible there are other sources for evangelisation and catechesis
5. comprehend that evangelisation and catechesis are at the service of the Word of God in the Bible and of the proclamation of the message of Christ.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

1. apply the fundamental notions of the correct reading and interpretation of the Word of God to catechesis and evangelisation
2. approach the Word of God as the foundation for interpreting and giving a correct spiritual meaning to life events and experiences in view of catechesis
3. integrate the knowledge acquired to discern and choose the best method of biblical pastoral ministry for a particular context through the process of inculturation
