DESCRIPTION Building on the overview of systemic conditions covered in physiology and general medicine credits, foot and lower limb manifestations associated with diabetes be explored. Particular emphasis will be placed on the foot at risk and podiatry assessment, diagnosis and management in context of a health profession team management approach. Diagnostic assessment techniques, both clinical and laboratory based, will be covered.

Objectives:

At the end of the module, students will be able to:

- Show an understanding of the different types of diabetes
- Show an understanding in the signs and symptoms of diabetes
- Show an understanding in the management of diabetes
- Show an understanding of the complications of diabetes with particular reference to foot complications.
- Show an understanding on the importance of clinical education
- Identify and critically discuss recent research studies in diabetes.
