DESCRIPTION | This study-unit is designed to equip students with a broad understanding of AI technologies and their transformative potential in the public sector. Students will gain insights into how AI can enhance public service delivery, improve decision-making processes, and drive innovative solutions to complex policy challenges. This study-unit places a strong emphasis on the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI in the public sector. Students will explore issues related to fairness, accountability, transparency, and bias in AI algorithms, as well as privacy and security concerns. The curriculum also addresses AI governance and regulatory frameworks, providing participants with a solid foundation for implementing AI policies and strategies. Study-Unit Aims: The study-unit aims to equip students with a solid foundation in the fundamentals of artificial intelligence, including key concepts, technologies, and methodologies. It will examine the various ways AI can be applied to enhance public policy across different sectors, Students will be able to analyse and utilise AI tools and techniques for policy analysis and decision-making. The study-unit will foster an understanding of the ethical, legal, and social issues associated with AI in the public sector. Insights into the governance models, regulatory frameworks, and policy strategies necessary for the responsible deployment of AI technologies in the public sector will be provided. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Demonstrate an understanding of the fundamental concepts, technologies, and methodologies of artificial intelligence; - Analyse and apply AI tools and techniques to various public policy domains to enhance policy formulation and implementation; - Critically evaluate the ethical, legal, and social implications of AI applications in the public sector; - Design and assess AI governance models and regulatory frameworks suitable for public sector applications; - Employ innovative thinking and problem-solving skills to design and implement AI-driven solutions to contemporary public policy challenges. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Experience the development of AI models relevant to public policy; - Develop skills to successfully integrate AI into public administration processes; - Respond to the evolving landscape of AI and its implications for public policy.
