DESCRIPTION The best learning experience lies in doing rather than listening. This study-unit presents different opportunities wherein students can engage in field experiences that allow them to observe and document how working professionals perform their job responsibilities.

The practicum in field of politics and governance, incorporate a diverse array of learning opportunities, including:

- Experience direct participation in media productions;
- Writing of political speeches;
- Evaluating real-life policy dossiers;
- Creating learning material related to political education;
- Observing empirical scenarios involving governance structures;
- Attending conferences related to politics and governance.

The Practicum will serve as a crucial tool to observe and associate real life practices in the field of politics and governance with theories and methods previously studied in other study-units.

Aims:

The practicum is an alternative method of learning that emphasizes student’s direct engagement in fieldwork and real-life experiences. It aims to apply theoretical and conceptual frameworks in the disciplines of politics, governance and policymaking to empirical environments. To this effect, the study-unit seeks to provide students with professional skills related to their areas of
studies.

Learning Outcomes:

1. Knowledge & Understanding:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Apply knowledge to specific case scenarios;
- Develop applied skill sets that are rooted in already acquired knowledge;
- Enhance their confidence in addressing media sources;
- Write and evaluate political discourse;
- Engage in conference settings and public consultation sessions;
- Experience the science of governance through real-life observations.

2. Skills:

By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to:

- Engage in public debate and consultations involving multiple stakeholders;
- Provide informed advice to politicians and senior policymakers; when dealing with matters involving policy, politics and governance issues;
- Develop an expert knowledge portfolio and a diversified skills-set needed for any professional who aspires for a rewarding career across multi-level governance and public life.
