DESCRIPTION | In this study-unit, students will be equipped with essential tools to enhance their writing, reading, and computer software skills. The study-unit will be divided into two parts: Computer Software Skills: Students will first focus on learning various computer software tools such as Windows, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation packages, databases, graphics software, website design, and specialized agriculture software. These skills will support them in tasks like report writing, creating assignments, and delivering oral presentations. Effective Learning Skills: The second part of the unit will concentrate on developing effective learning skills. Students will learn about basic computing skills that supplement their academic tasks. This will include functional, organizational, and stylistic skills essential for written communication. They will delve into academic writing, scientific and non-scientific report writing techniques, analytical approaches, presentation skills, and argumentation methods while keeping the audience in mind. Additionally, the unit will explore the ethical use of AI tools to further enrich the students' learning experience. Study-unit Aims: To impart the basic skills in using the most common computer applications as well as software specific to agriculture and to improve the skills in the use of written academic English. Learning Outcomes 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - recognize the right software for the task at hand; - explain the main functions of the software; - list the main features of the software; - express verbal communications in writing; - distinguish between scientific and non-scientific texts. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - operate software to complete a task; - input equations/text and output graphical representations; - organize and rearranging processed data; - interpret processed data; - deliver a presentation in front of an audience.
