DESCRIPTION | The study-unit shall comprise the following topics: The place of economics in rural and environmental policy; Sustainability and economic growth; Consumer and market behaviour; Supply and demand in agriculture; Agricultural production economics; Economic efficiency and environmental protection; Measuring benefits and costs; The economics of climate change; Market failure; Effect of policies; Market based instruments; Biodiversity and economics. Study-unit Aims: Students will use theoretical principles within agricultural, environmental and managerial economics to analyze, interpret and evaluate regional, national and international phenomena in the background of implications to the farmer, the rural economy and the environment. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Understand the principles of agriculture vis-a-vis environmental protection and maintenance. 2. Understand the implication of various national, regional and international phenomena in economics. 3. Understand the degree of producer contribution to the national and international economy. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: 1. Follow good agricultural and environmental practices as applied on the farm with a broad perspective towards national and regional contribution to economy. 2.
