| DESCRIPTION | The Bible has been used in a myriad of ways to convey humanistic and spiritual messages to humankind. A thorough presentation of these myriad of ways forms the foundation of this study-unit. After a chronological and historical presentation of the different translations of the Bible in the main ancient, English and Maltese languages, this study-unit analyses the different kinds of translations and offers a comparative study of the same different translations of the Bible. An analysis of the different kinds of translations and a comparative study of the same different translations of the Bible in Maltese along the years follows as the next step. Study-Unit Aims: This study-unit aims at a comparative study of the different translations (partial or complete) of the Bible in Maltese along the years, starting from Cleardo Naudi鈥檚 translation of the Gospel of John in 1811 up to and including the Fifth Edition of the complete Bible from the original languages by the Malta Bible Society in 2020. It also aims at demonstrating the contributions to Biblical and Maltese studies by these different translations. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - identify the various partial or complete translations of the Bible in Maltese; - define the specific character of each translation, whether Formal or Dynamic/Functional; - describe the different contributions to Bible studies of each translation; - describe the different contributions to Maltese studies of each translation; - classify the validity of each translation of the Bible in Maltese. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - categorize the translators producing different Bible translations in Maltese; - compare the linguistic skills utilised in each translation; - compare different translations of the Bible in Maltese in order to classify their eventual use in Theology and Maltese comparative studies.
