| DESCRIPTION | The study-unit will delve into the Gospel of John as a theological work that communicates the story of God’s commitment to this world. The interaction between the text and the reader brings to the foreground the functional dimension of a rhetorical reading. This study will focus on the excitement of experiencing the power and effect of reading the unified narrative of this gospel like a literary symphony. Study-Unit Aims: The main aim of this study-unit is to help under-graduate students to probe into the main theological themes and issues raised by the Gospel of John. Students will be aware of the history behind the text that reflects the history of the community to whom this gospel was originally written. This will help the students to be more critical and analytical in studying the text of this gospel as it stands. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Possess a measure of understanding of the Gospel of John and its relation with the Synoptic Gospels. - Investigate the interplay between theology and symbolism. - Outline the basic structure of the Gospel of John. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Research and use different Commentary on the Gospel of John. - Analyze and critically appraise different contexts behind the Gospel of John.
