DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides the opportunity for final year social work students to integrate the knowledge, skills and competencies developed throughout their studies, and prepare them for the three-hour examination through which this study unit is assessed. This study-unit provides the milieu in which students can come together and through guided discussions, explore theories and best practice, and analyse a case study through the lens of the learning acquired throughout the course. Study-unit Aims: The main aim of this study-unit is the integration and synthesis of knowledge, skills and abilities for social work practice. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Recognise links between theory and practice as applied to a case study; • Recall theories and methods of practice; • Describe methods of practice that should be used in the case study presented; • Discuss best practices as applied to the case study. 2. Skills By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: • Analyse a case study; • Compose essays that integrate knowledge acquired through the course of studies, as applied to the case study; • Integrate commonalities in subject matter as referred to the case study.
