DESCRIPTION | Diagnostics in Chinese Medicine is a study-unit which focuses on the essential theory and fundamental knowledge, as well as skills, in diagnosing diseases and differentiating syndromes. It is considered as a primary and a major unit within the curriculum of the Chinese medicine and often regarded as a link between the essential Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory and various clinical subspecialties. Study-unit Aims: This study-unit aims to enable students to better understand the main diagnostic methods employed in Chinese Medicine as well as the elementary theory and basic methods of syndrome differentiation in Chinese Medicine. Learning Outcomes: By the end of this study-unit, students will be able to: 1. demonstrate knowledge and recognise the main diagnostic methods employed in Chinese Medicine such as inspection, auscultation and olfaction (listening and smelling), inquiry and pulse-taking; 2. demonstrate knowledge of the elementary theory and basic methods of syndrome differentiation such as eight-principle syndrome differentiation, syndrome differentiation of qi, blood and body fluid and syndrome differentiation of zang-fu organs (viscera); 3. administer and use the four diagnostic methods; 4. identify and, hence, be more familiar with the main clinical manifestations of the common syndromes in Chinese Medicine.
