DESCRIPTION | This study-unit provides participants with an opportunity to explore the foundations required to understand the tourist experience within a cultural space from a management perspective. Designing the makings of tourist behaviour within a cultural space requires practitioners to delve into startegic planning and eventually manage effectively those projects that fit within the vision and the mission of a cultural creative space. Study-Unit Aims: To evaluate theoretical knowledge and apply the necessary skills required in project management related to designing tourist experience To identify various methods of identifying tourist attitudes and behaviours as means to strategize on establishing a long-term relationship between the tourist and the cultural heritage space. To explain the importance of institutional planning, identifying the salient contents of an effective strategic plan, and provides the necessary information to assist in the creation of a strategic plan. To employ qualitative and quantitaive research methods adequate for cultural heritage practitioners to understand the tourist experience and inform about appropriate tourist experiences. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Identify different data collection instruments which are adequate to the needs and requirements of the cultural heritage space. - Identify and implement methods to understand the nature of the tourist experience. - Outline the salient contents of an effective strategic plan. - Recognize the various types of qualitative and quantitative methods of research. - Describe the internal and external motivators of when tourist behaviour becomes crucial when identifying future projects. - Describe the necessary steps to implement a strategic plan. - Describe different research methodologies and their challenges and opportunities when studying tourist flow. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative research methods to understand tourist flow in cultural heritage settings. - Create a plan of how to execute long- and short-term goals when developing a project. - Recognise different techniques related to tourist engagement and experience in cultural heritage settings. - Explain the current situation of a cultural heritage institution. - Analyses and manages stakeholder expectations and engagement to ensure a successful project outcome. - Evaluate leading scholarly research related to opportunities and challenges with respect to tourist profiling and experience behaviour. - Evaluate data in a scientific manner and compile in a professional report for informed future decision-making purposes. - Evaluate a plan toward facilitating the execution of specific goals. - Evaluate leading scholarly research related to opportunities and challenges with respect to tourist flow.
