Study-Unit Description

CODE TTC5100

TITLE International Event and Festival Management

UM LEVEL 05 - Postgraduate Modular Diploma or Degree Course

MQF LEVEL 7

ECTS CREDITS 5

DEPARTMENT Tourism Management

DESCRIPTION The rationale for this study-unit is underpinned by the fact that many organisations and destinations are attracting consumers through the creation and marketing of events. This has created a need for skills and competencies required to professionally produce and execute events on various scales ranging from small scale local events to national as well as international large scale events.

As we study the phenomenon of events, this unit critically engages the student to appraise and evaluate the development, classification, roles and management of festivals and events and their implications for tourism businesses, localities and cultures. Given that an international profile will be given to the unit, students will be asked to debate and reflect upon the impacts and legacies of global festivals and events.

The study-unit aims to integrate theoretical evaluations to managerial implications by covering the various issues involved in the planning, development and management of events within communities or as a business function.

Study-unit Aims:

The study-unit aims to provide a broad range of management skills and competencies required to professionally produce and execute events on various scales. This unit will provide the opportunity for students to use the appropriate management tools so as to be able to appraise and evaluate the development, classification, roles and management of festivals and events. It will also evaluate the implications of hosting such events on tourism businesses, localities and cultures.
