DESCRIPTION | This study-unit centres around drawing as a process of understanding and discovery; a visual exploration of cognitive thought processes and experiences in relation to understanding the manipulation and organisation of space, thus presenting itself as an indispensible universal tool. Study-Unit Aims: - The aim of this study-unit is to provide a practice-based experience of drawing as a tool for concept development as well as creative expression; - Students will be assisted in engaging with different techniques and methods of drawing; - The study-unit will also provide contextual information about the practice of drawing in contemporary art, architecture and design. Learning Outcomes: 1. Knowledge & Understanding: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Recognise drawing as a useful and effective visual communication tool in art, architectural and design practice, as well as generation , exploration and understanding of ideas; - Analyse the role of drawing as a fundamental tool in a contemporary artistic, architectural and design context. 2. Skills: By the end of the study-unit the student will be able to: - Develop ideas and concepts, whilst showing self-critique in the presentation of own work; - Produce a thematic body of work consisting of a number of drawings in a chosen concept and medium; - Consolidate skills in observation based drawing,understanding of form and space, light and shade, and composition.
