DESCRIPTION This course will provide basic skills to analyze data using both SPSS and EXCEL. The course will focus on sampling techniques, sample size calculation; provide basics of SPSS, including generating variables and data entry; explore SPSS graphics for continuous and categorical variables including histograms, bar graphs, scatter plots, clustered bar graphs, boxplots and error bar graphs; explore SPSS tables including frequency tables, boxplots and descriptive statistics tables; discuss measures of location and dispersion including the mean, median, mode, range, standard deviation, quartiles and inter-quartile range; explore inferential techniques to generalise results, including the One-Way ANOVA test, Pearson correlation test, Chi square test, One-sample t-test, Paired sample t-test, independent samples t-test, and Friedman test; and introduce the concept of regression analysis.

Unit Material:

Data sets will be provided by the tutor before the sessions.

Assessment:

A certificate of attendance and of satisfactory completion of the unit will be provided at the end of the semester.
