Abstract: This research project aims to identify how HCI techniques could be used to aid visually impaired singers who wish to partake in choral activities. A low-cost solution that addresses the communication barrier between a conductor and a visually impaired singer is proposed. This makes use of a gesture recognition device and is capable of recognizing the hand gestures of a conductor, interpreting the signal that these gestures communicate and finally transmit the intended signal to a wireless device as audio or haptic feedback. The proposed solution is designed and developed following an iterative prototyping methodology, and evaluated with experts and users related to the domain. Initially, interviews with choral conductors were performed to extract knowledge on the area, as well as challenges that need to be addressed. Literature on existing assistive technologies and HCI solutions for impaired musicians, gesture recognition devices, and real-time communication channels and protocols is reviewed. Evaluations were carried out with experts as well as blindfolded singers who assessed the whole system iteratively. This work provides knowledge on how HCI technology can be of help to this segment in society. It proposes a basis that aids in ameliorating the situation and that focuses on the inclusion of visually impaired people in social activities. ERP systems have become recognized as an important tool in maintaining this advantage. The ICT revolution and the pervading influence of web based communication has enabled ERP systems within companies to make a quantum leap in terms of its ability to help generate and maintain competitive advantage. However, the implementation of these complex, large scale systems, would not be possible without the appropriate planning, analyzing and controlling of all of the activities which need to occur when carrying out an ERP project implementation. Therefore, key aim of this report is to take a closer look at the factors which play a pivotal role in determining the success and failure of ERP system implementation. Through this research, this report aims to establish a framework consisting of best practices and critical success factors, which will then be used in the development of an artifact which aids management, by giving a current ‘snapshot’ of the state of any projects they are currently implementing & integrating. The main aims of this project include:  Having a system that keeps track of all items in the household without having to go through everything and being able to know the remaining quantity of each item, the location where to find that particular item and their expiry date  Having an automatically generated shopping list where items that are consumed or thrown away because of expiration date are added without user interaction and moreover if the user wants something new, it can be added manually  Having a screen on which the user can get the notifications and a buzzer to get the user‟s attention, before a product expires so it can easily be consumed before it has to be thrown away. From the survey distributed, it was noted that this system will be beneficial in many ways. It could be very useful for those families that both parents work and when they get home have to do all the housework besides going shopping, etc. Therefore Kitchen Genie would save a lot of time. It could also save a lot of money for those people who have a large storage space. This makes it hard to keep track of what items they have and end up throwing them away because they are past their expiry date. This system does all that is mentioned above with the use of a NEX-6810 Ultra-High Frequency Mid-Range Radio Frequency Identification Reader and Higgs3 stickers. It is concluded that such system should be considered as an investment rather than a cost. This is because although it is quite expensive to implement, the long term benefits that it provides will outdo the initial cost. Description: B.SC.IT(HONS) 2016-01-01T00:00:00Z e-ID : security, privacy, interoperability and usability issues in Malta /library/oar/handle/123456789/14812 2018-05-22T08:35:57Z 2016-01-01T00:00:00Z Title: e-ID : security, privacy, interoperability and usability issues in Malta Abstract: In a globalized technological world, the trend is to change every aspect of our lives to digital. Such was the mind-set that brought about the introduction of electronic identity (e-ID) in Malta – but despite having been in place for the last decade or so, it has remained largely unused by the man in the street. This Final Year Project analyses the current Maltese e-ID Management System, and identifies the main reasons for its lack of usage. From the prototype developed to address these issues, results showed that the average Maltese citizen would be willing to make use of such a system for as long as it were user-friendly and processes used were to be significantly simplified.
