Authors: Sultana, Roseline
Abstract: The Institut Français de l’Éducation (IFÉ) organised a one-day seminar on “Research and Practice: Towards what Kind of Relevant Research for Teachers?” with the key issue being the extent to which educational research impacts on classroom practice, if at all. The seminar took place in Lyon, France, on the 31st March 2017, and was attended by several teachers from a number of European countries. A few words about the IFÉ to start with. The research institute knows its origins to the Institut National de Recherche Pédagogique, which till 2011 was located in rue d’Ulm, Paris. The INRP was transferred to Lyon, where it became an institute forming part of the city’s École Normale Supérieure. All the holdings of the INRP became part of the Diderot library at the ENS, which now offers access to 500,000 volumes and 100,000 journals on education.2017-01-01T00:00:00ZThe ghost in the machine. A structurational interpretation of Maltese policies on ICT and education
Authors: Camilleri, Patrick
Abstract: The unprecedented expansion of digital technologies has been likened to nothing less than the efficient spread of a biological virus (Schmidt and Cohen, 2013). The omnipresence of Systems and digitally mediated attitudes is now a prominent feature in contemporary society, not the least in education. With many world governments, including Malta, now boasting of well-established and ambitious educational policies that range from pre-school to lifelong learning, a chronological portrayal and Structurational interpretation of an evolving recursive dialogue taking place between socioeconomic influences and inherent qualities of published Maltese ICT educational policies is hereby presented.2017-01-01T00:00:00ZMalta Review of Educational Research [Editorial]/library/oar/handle/123456789/209082017-08-02T01:26:02Z2017-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Malta Review of Educational Research [Editorial]

Authors: Matemba, Yonah H.
Abstract: In this memorial lecture - given as tribute to Frederick Ofosu, a Ghanaian migrant in Malta who tragically committed suicide on 18th January 2017 – I draw on critical race theory to highlight subaltern voices in the discourse, and in everyday life, particularly related to immigrant experiences, the failure of multiculturalism and the resultant psychological trauma of migration. I then recast the positive impact of an inclusive society, and importantly emphasise the role of civic education in fostering a sense of community for all people who live in a multicultural country such as Malta.
