Abstract: This research investigates the inhibitors and enablers that local importers and
exporters face during the transit of their shipments between warehouses and the Malta
Freeport Terminal (MFT). Data was collected through in-depth interviews with several
stakeholders that form part of this transition. This study reveals that the importers and
exporters face several obstructions resulting in delayed shipments. These problems were
pointed out by the interviewees whilst positive remarks were also noted. The research
results were collated.

Abstract: This project will be focused at seeing if the Maltese society – at a local and national level is ready to start thinking differently in terms of Public Transport. I will be proposing a new multimodal system and see what are the reactions from the general public. The reason for which this study has been chosen is due to the fact that in recent years the current public transport service has been through changes, but the changes have always been from a conventional perspective. The result is that the public transport system has been operating the same type of system for years.
The multimodal system being proposed is built on the current Bus formula used today but with a more holistic approach. It would be a system laid on the Bus Rapid Transit philosophy and additionally supported by different modes of transport. For the successful implementation of this system there would be the need for a strong willing government and population, which would want a change to the current congested lifestyle that we have to live with.

Abstract: In accordance with European and international environmental obligations, Malta is committed to have 5,000 Battery Electric Vehicles on the road by 2020. On the 14th February 2014, the Maltese government announced a scheme aimed at encouraging ownership of electric vehicles, reducing the number of old motor vehicles from the road and thus reducing pollution.
The scheme comprises a grant of €4,000 to persons registering an electric vehicle, increasing to €5,000 in the case of persons registering for an electric vehicle while at the same time de-registering their own vehicle, if it is at least 10 years old.
In Malta, as much as 98% of electricity generation is produced from combustion of fossil fuels, mainly heavy fuel oil and diesel oil. The combustion of fossil fuels results in significant environment impacts, particularly in emission of Carbon Dioxide (CO2).
The energy consumption of two locally available battery electric vehicles in the super-mini category, Renault Zoe and Mitsubishi i-MiEV is analysed, taking into account the CO2 generation characteristics of the Maltese electric power plants. Their performance is compared to that of vehicles in the same category, powered by different fuels.

Abstract: Since the liberalization of the airline industry, many legacy carriers have been struggling to
cope with the ever increasing demand for low cost airlines by travellers. Air carriers, such as
Air Malta and Lufthansa, look to both create and retain revenue streams in order to stay afloat
in today’s competitive airline market. One of the ways in which such carriers maintain such
cash flows is through their loyalty programs, also known as Frequent Flyer Programs (FFPs).
This research, which is based in Malta, examines the effects of frequent flyer programs on
Maltese customers. Forty persons out of the seventy eight contacted, participated in this
research by responding to a questionnaire, which was purposely designed for the study. Also,
an interview with the CRM and loyalty manager at Air Malta was carried out. The
questionnaire and interview are annexed at the end of this study.
The study revealed that that 95% of frequent flyers believed that frequent flyer programs do
add value to the airline-customer relationship. However, it also revealed that local airlines
need to invest more resources to engage the Maltese to fully participate in such loyalty
programs.
