Abstract: The Malta Sociological Association (MSA)’s annual conference took place on 8 November 2025 at the Salini Visitors’ Centre, featuring a curated array of academic presentations centred on the theme of Sustainability and Society. Building on the legacy of past editions, this year felt different. Initially, many said their work wasn’t about the environment, revealing how easily we talk about it as though we stand outside it.2025-12-01T00:00:00ZDaħla [Luċjanu. Authors: Borg, Claudine
Abstract: Din id-daħla tiddiskuti l-importanza tat-traduzzjoni tar-Verae Historiae ta’ Luċjanu minn Samosata għall-Malti, u tenfasizza r-rwol tagħha bħala waħda mill-ewwel xogħlijiet ta’ fantaxjenza fil-letteratura tal-Punent u l-kontribut tagħha għat-tgħaxir tal-ilsien u l-letteratura Maltija, partikolarment fil-ġeneru tal-fantaxjenza u l-fantastiku. Hi tenfasizza l-proċess ta’ traduzzjoni kollaborattiva bejn Carmel Serracino u Andrew Debono Cauchi, filwaqt li tesplora l-isfidi bħaż-żamma tas-sentenzi twal, l-istrateġiji ta’ forinizzazzjoni, u l-lealtà lejn it-test sors Grieg antik. Billi ġġib riferenzi għal teoriji mill-Istudji tat-Traduzzjoni (eż. minn Even-Zohar, Venuti, u Schleiermacher), hi targomenta li din it-traduzzjoni tixpruna d-djalogu kulturali, l-innovazzjoni fil-letteratura Maltija, u l-viżibilità tat-tradutturi, filwaqt li tippreserva l-essenza satirika u intellettwali tax-xogħol ta’ Luċjanu dwar temi bħax-xjenza, ir-reliġjon, il-politika u l-verità fil-kitba.2025-01-01T00:00:00ZObservations and diariesBorg, ClaudineHeine, CarmenRisku, Hanna/library/oar/handle/123456789/1423052025-12-17T10:15:16Z2025-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: Observations and diaries

Abstract: Observation and introspection can be used as qualitative, cognitive ethnographic research methods. Qualitative field observation allows researchers to study translators, interpreters and other relevant actors in situ. Introspective diaries facilitate a deeper understanding of the cognitive processes of note takers. Both are rooted in ethnographic research principles, which is reflected in the data collection techniques, observational modes and ethical considerations described in this chapter. They support the understanding of activities in their social and material environments and histories. This chapter introduces these two research methods and examines ethical issues, conceptual aspects and implementations of observational and diary research. It discusses advantages and disadvantages of the two methods, considers their relevance for translation and interpreting studies research and provides practical recommendations for research projects.2025-01-01T00:00:00ZEuropean Society for Translation Studies Newsletter : Issue 67Borg, ClaudineAbad Colom, MaríaBadić, Edinde Boe, EstherGiampieri, PatriziaMoreno Rivero, Javier/library/oar/handle/123456789/1423042025-12-17T10:04:09Z2025-01-01T00:00:00ZTitle: European Society for Translation Studies Newsletter : Issue 67
