Title: The logistical challenges faced by a multinational company when setting up a new production plant
Abstract: The aim of this research is to analyse the various logistical challenges faced by a multinational company when taking the decision to expand their production and operations to a new location. It will look into the measures taken by a particular organisation which opened a new production plant in Vietnam, considering and improving its strategies from past experiences of when it started business in other various locations across the different continents. The main areas explored are human resources, information technology, processes, infrastructure and location which in one way or another have an impact on the logistical aspects of the company. Taking into consideration, the complexity of the supply chain, this study will also question the effect of this additional plant on the concerned employees as well as other participants in the supply chain. The study utilises a qualitative method, using semi-structured interviews for the collection of primary data. It results that there are some major logistical challenges such as the relocation, lack of availability of human resources, the lack of experience in using ERP systems and the lack of information flow between colleagues which creates inefficiencies.

Title: Breaking the traditional daytime haulage operations in Malta : less congestion and improved transport operations?
Abstract: The external costs of congestion and consequently the physical impact on the island’s network
are highly prevalent in the public domain. With the principal goal to mitigate some congestion
and shrug off some criticism, Transport Malta proposed a draft amendment to the traffic
regulations suggesting a ban of road tractors mainly carrying construction equipment and other
supplies during peak hours. Although it has been discarded, intentions are not to be taken lightly
as a ‘no action’ or limited policy does not guarantee that a similar proposal will not be put
forward in the future possible extending to freight transport because after all freight is part of the
network. This study approached a number of hauliers to explore trends in freight movements
and how would the concept of off-peak haulage be absorbed. The results give an insight on
freight productions and attraction in the urban area with a highlight on off-peak haulage and the
potential of a pilot project together with recommendations for policy makers to achieve a more
sustainable transport network.

Title: Transformational change in a ground based logistics and transportation service
Abstract: This work encompasses a journey through the difficult meanders of organizational change focusing
on a small research in a public aviation operative unit. The research conducted portrayed a picture of
a public sector that sometimes is hampered by difficulties in achieving the desired change
management and the consequent improvement. These difficulties relating to underground resistance,
beauraucracy and lack of planning. Through a logistics Business Plan that deals with the delivery of
a PRM service in the aviation Ground Handling this paper will try to demonstration that public
change is possible, that operative units can become revenue generators and therefore successful even
on a small scale. This change that is being portrayed in this work is by far not on a corporate level
but important change concepts will be discussed can feature on a strategic level. PRM service
delivery at Airports is against a payment to the Service Provider therefore a good source of revenue.
Transformational change requires change management practices, leadership and core organizational
culture changes that become a ‘driving force’ to achieve the required ultimate goal of a desired
competitive advantage. This ground logistics plan interfaces with the aviation sector and directly
impinges on society as it delivers a dedicated service to persons with reduced mobility, therefore
vulnerable. As we will be able to understand persons carrying disabilities could be profoundly
hindered by air travel. The intention is to recommend concrete action plans that will be recommended
practices to develop those change agents within the organization, ensuring the unit’s Quality
Assurance Standard with the introduction of Operative KPI’s and most important creating human
resource optimization through a ‘learning organization’. Any change is possible notwithstanding the
difficulties but has to be infused in the employees themselves and communicated well to create
motivation. We will try to propose an innovative transport niche market plan that does not exist
locally that can drive ‘change’.

Title: Forces and trends affecting distribution channels and visibility within pharmaceutical manufacturing companies : a perspective whether similar Maltese companies are experiencing the same fate
Abstract: The objective of this paper is to identify and examine the major forces and trends that are
affecting Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Companies` distribution channels and visibility.
Such focus by the author was due to the limited volume allowed for this dissertation in terms
of in depth research, the consequence of which the researcher couldn`t expand his research on
other key supply chain participants, such as third party logistics (3PLs), wholesalers and
retailers, companies.
To complete this study, qualitative research methods were used, with which data collection was
carried out by means of the literature collected by the author and by face to face interviews
held with the respective local companies` representatives.
