Title: Il-għaqda fil-Maltin
Abstract: L-għaqdiet tal-Malti mhumiex ftit. Insibu min jaħdem għall-poeżija, min jgħin biex jiġi ġġenerat il-materjal, min jorganizza xi festival, min jagħmel il-kommemorazzjonijiet, u min jiffoka fuq it-tradizzjonijiet. Leanne Ellul tħares lejn l-għaqdiet li jaħdmu għal xi qasam jew ieħor tal-Malti bl-appoġġ tal-ministeru għall-edukazzjoni u x-xogħol.2016-01-01T00:00:00ZOutside my window : reflections on Malta's overdevelopment

Title: Outside my window : reflections on Malta's overdevelopment
Abstract: It is early December. The first, to be precise.
It is six in the morning, and I am holding a
mug of lukewarm coffee in my right hand.
Outside the sliding window, stationary metal
structures obstruct the view of the valley. I
am in my small apartment on the island of
Malta, and despite the time of year, I am not
feeling cold at all. I long for a cooler breeze.
I wish to freeze a little. My tweed jacket has
been hanging in the wardrobe for over a
year, and I do not think I will be putting it on
anytime soon.
That jacket reminds me of the many spare
buttons my mother has at home. The ones
she got from the newsagent’s that has since
disappeared, to make way for a huge apartment block. That shop was the definition
of clutter. In each corner stood an eclectic
collection of assorted items—pencils, cigarettes, cold drinks, newspapers, and sweets. [extract]2021-01-01T00:00:00ZThe reality of reliance : on literary organisations in Malta

Title: The reality of reliance : on literary organisations in Malta
Abstract: In a country where language itself carries the weight of survival, Malta’s literary organisations work quietly yet relentlessly to keep words alive. Small, voluntary, and often precariously funded, these groups are not only shaping Malta’s literary landscape but also resisting a future where art is dismissed as unnecessary. Their work is fragile but vital, sustained by dedication and independence, more than certainty.2025-01-01T00:00:00ZIl-morfoloġija tal-mewt : elementi suwed fin-novella "Roża"

Title: Il-morfoloġija tal-mewt : elementi suwed fin-novella "Roża"
Authors: Ellul, Leanne
Abstract: Il biża' mill-mewt imur lura snin twal u ħafna jqisuha bħala
universali. L-antropologu Ernest Becker jgħid li "the idea of death,
the fear of it, haunts the human animal like nothing else; it is the
mainspring of human activity - activity designed largely to avoid
the fatality of death, to overcome it by denying in some way that it is
the final destiny for man". Tant hu hekk, li xi drabi sa nippruvaw
ninnegozjaw mal-mewt. Eżempju ta' dan huwa l-proċess antik tal-mummifikazzjoni Eġizzjana; mhux biss proċess dokumentat fl-istorja
imma metafora tar-rieda tal-bniedem li jsir immortali. Skont Kundu
"Exchanging finitude for eternal life has been a dominant leitmotif
in the literature of death. Tales of attempted immortality populate
histories of ancient civilizations, particularly the Chinese and the
Egyptian". Dawn il-ġrajjiet kbar, is-simboliżmi, il-miti u l-ħrejjef
ikkaratterizzaw il-modi li bihom inġarrbu l-mewt, nimmaġinawha u
nirrakkuntawha. [silta]2024-01-01T00:00:00Z
