Title: A short reflection on values and educational research
Authors: Camilleri, Patrick
Abstract: Value free research is a highly controversial and subjective proposition. Aspects
including epistemological, ontological, and political issues make it very difficult to achieve
neutral based research. Issues that cause educational research to be rated as inferior
and second best include the fact that besides being criticized as being non cumulative, it
is unrealistic and distant from practice. Educational researchers are also shackled by the
dogma of unattainable ideality of neutrality and non-partisanship. In the attempt to imitate
and fit in the deterministic and empirical ways of the natural sciences they disregard the
uniqueness of their research.2005-01-01T00:00:00ZAn exploration of the students' understanding of the concepts of 'democracy' and 'citizenship' at the Junior College of the University of Malta, through a qualitative method

Title: An exploration of the students' understanding of the concepts of 'democracy' and 'citizenship' at the Junior College of the University of Malta, through a qualitative method
Authors: Caruana, Philip
Abstract: Through a qualitative research method, namely the use of semi-structured
interviews with eight lecturers of Systems of Knowledge at the Junior College of the
University of Malta, this study explores the lecturers' understanding of the concepts of
'democracy' and 'citizenship ' and it also explores the lecturers' perceptions of the students'
understanding of the same concepts at the same College. The research evolved mainly
around the concepts of 'democracy' and 'citizenship' and their influence if any, on the
development of the students as democratic citizens.2005-01-01T00:00:00ZThe evolving link between learning and assessment : from 'transmission check' to 'learning support'

Title: The evolving link between learning and assessment : from 'transmission check' to 'learning support'
Authors: Buhagiar, Michael A.
Abstract: Learning and assessment are now considered as two sides of the same coin we
simply cannot speak of one without also referring to the other. This paper, which
traces the evolution of the link between learning and assessment, explores what led to
our shift in understanding of the learning process from the behaviourist to the constructivist
model, and the implications that this 'revolution ' has had for assessment. Making
assessment at the service of learning is subsequently identified as the challenge ahead
for the educational community.2005-01-01T00:00:00ZNella lingua nostra nativa : l-uzu tal-Malti fil-processi ta' l-inkwizizzjoni Rumana f'Malta

Title: Nella lingua nostra nativa : l-uzu tal-Malti fil-processi ta' l-inkwizizzjoni Rumana f'Malta
Authors: Cassar, Mario
Abstract: The Roman Inquisition in Malta was active from 1591 to 1798. From a linguistic point of view, the local Tribunal documents can be of use as the notaries wrote word expressions, swear words and sentences as they were spoken by the locals. This means that one can find these Maltese phrases written in trial documents that were written in Italian. This sheds light on the spoken Maltese during the time the Knights of Malta were on the Islands.2005-01-01T00:00:00Z
