Aspects including epistemological, ontological, and political issues make it very difficult to achieve neutral based research. Issues that cause educational research to be rated as inferior and second best include the fact that besides being criticized as being non cumulative, it is unrealistic and distant from practice. Educational researchers are also shackled by the dogma of unattainable ideality of neutrality and non-partisanship. In the attempt to imitate and fit in the deterministic and empirical ways of the natural sciences they disregard the uniqueness of their research. The research evolved mainly around the concepts of 'democracy' and 'citizenship' and their influence if any, on the development of the students as democratic citizens. Abstract: Learning and assessment are now considered as two sides of the same coin we simply cannot speak of one without also referring to the other. This paper, which traces the evolution of the link between learning and assessment, explores what led to our shift in understanding of the learning process from the behaviourist to the constructivist model, and the implications that this 'revolution ' has had for assessment. Making assessment at the service of learning is subsequently identified as the challenge ahead for the educational community. From a linguistic point of view, the local Tribunal documents can be of use as the notaries wrote word expressions, swear words and sentences as they were spoken by the locals. This means that one can find these Maltese phrases written in trial documents that were written in Italian. This sheds light on the spoken Maltese during the time the Knights of Malta were on the Islands. Sat, 01 Jan 2005 00:00:00 GMT /library/oar/handle/123456789/6039 2005-01-01T00:00:00Z
