Public policy responses towards poverty amongst gendered minorities

Abstract

In this century poverty is persisting and although governments and entities work to eradicate it, we still find people who are in the poverty trap. In society, different categories of people are suffering from poverty. This work points out how the LGBTIQ community is affected by poverty look closely into the public policy processes that had been implemented to help this section of society. This research investigates how the LGBTIQ community is being affected in Malta. A strong literature backing from countries ranging from Europe, the US and South America sheds light on the process and achievements that this small island has achieved to help the LGBTIQ community in Malta. A qualitative approach was adopted in this study. Elite Interviews and a Focus Group was conducted. Both were a good tool for data gathering. The analysis and findings shed light on the public policy processes towards poverty for the LGBTIQ community and what one should do to lift those who are still below the poverty line.
