Abstract: The Mediterranean has complex interactions between its physical and human geography. This gives rise to different landscapes and also different perceptions associated with them. These perceptions often vary, depending on the different stakeholders, their knowledge, agendas and use of the coast. Through qualitative research, this study aims to look at the different perceptions on the coast of Birzebbuga. It will analyse whether perceptions are in fact influenced by the stakeholders' interaction with the coast and how the knowledge of the coast differs between stakeholders. It will also look at how the stakeholders take care of and manage the coast and if this depends on their knowledge and perception of the latter.
