The United Kingdom (UK) is the largest source market for incoming tourism of the Maltese Islands; however it is rapidly losing its market share. The aim of this chapter is to understand the changing nature of the British tourism market in Malta since the 1960s and if and what action could be taken so as to mitigate the loss in arrivals in the next decade. It mainly focuses on the sociocultural relationship between Malta and Britain that has been built through the tourist encounter. The period under review is marked by the transition from the coloniser-colonised affiliation to a host-guest relationship.en_GB
