| dc.description.abstract | This long essay is an attempt at demonstrating how information literacy skills can be implemented in the existing Maltese Secondary School Curriculum as a means to an end rather than as an end in themselves. The production of the resource pack, intended for all levels and subjects taught in the secondary schools, was accomplished after conducting a thorough research of the literature about information literacy skills, an intensive study of the secondary schools curriculum, subject syllabi and information literacy skills reference and research resources, as well as comprehensive discussions with different subject teachers. This resource pack provides Library Media Specialists and teachers with clear guidelines, activities and resources. It aims at integrating information literacy skills with all other curricular subjects, with the hope of developing in students the skills they require to become independent learners, ready to embark towards lifelong education. For this reason, the methodology applied in all the activities moves away from the traditional, detached and :fragmented 'chalk and talk' method of teaching to student-centred learning, a learning which is active and integrated and which exposes students to real life situations and gives them opportunities to learn through hands on experiences. | en_GB |
