Abstract: What benefits have resulted to the Maltese community following the Broadcasting Act of 1991 and the resulting changes? In the answer to my question I will try to point out what changes have this process brought to the way of living of the population and the way people look at the local media. I will take a look at quality of programmes and see if there was an improvement. Method: In the first part of my essay I will describe how the pluralism process evolved and who were the main movers of the process. I will interview politicians involved in the process and take a look at their opinion way back in 1991 and their opinion today on pluralism in the media. I ask those who were in favour and against pluralism at that point in time and why they had their opinion. Among these politician and other persons involved in the media I will interview Dr Michael Frendo MP who was the Parliamentary Secretary responsible for Communications in 1991. I will also interview Mario Azzopardi who is a regular analyst of the local media today and Mario Schiavone who was also involved in the pluralism process. Besides I will interview other politician who in 1991 opposed pluralism in broadcasting. Another part of my essay would be a deep look at the Broadcasting Act that was approved by Parliament and how it was implemented. In my essay I will also give the Broadcasting Authority view on pluralism today and any future development expected in this sector. In the last part of my essay I will gather various public opinions about their views on pluralism in the media and I make my own conclusion on the subject. I will take a look at the quality of programmes, especially local productions, and see if there was progress.
