In Malta, research in the field of women and work is still in its initial stages. This research project is one of the first attempts at exploring the experience of factory life of a number of Maltese women.

Life on the Line is a qualitative investigation which aims to combinethe sociology of work and the labour processwith gender issues in a local manufacturing concern set in a marginal position within the global capitalist world. The central participants of the book are the women who as “factory girls” are given a rare opportunity to express their views and feelings regarding their life at work.
