Of cities, bars and mics
January will kick off Inizjamed鈥檚 year of open mics for 2017. On Thursday 12 January at 1930hrs the general public is invited to City Bar in Mosta to read a poem or a story, perform, or play their own music. The stage will be yours! Any genre, any language and any subject are welcome. All you need to do is turn up and perform! This will be a great opportunity for all performers to showcase their works and gauge the audience response.
Inizjamed鈥檚 aim is to develop the open mic culture in the Maltese islands. Past open mics include those held in G偶ira, Marsascala, Qala and various locations in Valletta. This will be Inizjamed鈥檚 10th open mic session.
The special guest of the evening will be poet, storyteller, theatre performer and book binder, Glen Calleja. Calleja writes mainly in Maltese, but has also published poetry, essays and short stories in English. Calleja鈥檚 writing often explores issues relating to the passage from boyhood to manhood and the politics and perceptions of masculinity. In his poetry, he regularly recycles from his earlier writings re-proposing them in new forms.
Entrance and participation in the open mic is free. For more information write to inizjamedprojects@gmail.com or sarahmallia89@gmail.com.
