Event: Malta Café Scientifique event: Creating artificial hands
  Date: Wednesday 12 April 2023
  Time: 19:00
Venue: Studio B, Music Room, Spazju Kreattiv, Valletta
  Speaker: Prof. Michael A. Saliba

How many times have you used your hands today? Often enough we don’t know. Hands are one of the main reasons humans have ended up being such incredibly successful animals. Emulating these multi-purpose-tools is an ongoing quest for engineers. Join Malta Café Scientifique’s event on Wednesday 12 April 2023 at 19:00, Studio B (Music room) at Spazju Kreattiv where Prof. Michael Saliba will present his research on robotic hands.
Artificial hands are versatile tools that can be applied to a diverse range of tasks. They can serve as prostheses, or can function in environments such as underwater or in space where humans can’t work. Due to the complexity of the natural hand and of its function, these devices are hard to design. Engineers need to decide which properties to focus on when replicating hands.
Prof. Saliba will present the insights from his research on artificial hands in an informal atmosphere, followed by a short discussion with our audience. To stay up to date about events and speakers, check out the Malta Café Scientifique and .
Malta Café Scientifique thanks the STEAM project, Spazju Kreattiv for hosting this event, the University of Malta, and (of which the Café forms part).
