FAME Project (FAshion eMpowers NEETs)

The project KA220-VET (FAshion eMpowers NEETs) is a 30-month Erasmus+ Cooperation Partnership project, officially launched with an online kick-off meeting on Wednesday, 5 November 2025. Led by the University of Malta in collaboration with partner organisations from Austria, Bulgaria, Greece, and Italy, the project addresses skills development and inclusion within Vocational Education and Training (VET) through an innovative approach to fashion construction and design education.

The primary aim of FAME is to develop an open and inclusive vocational pathway in creative fashion construction and design, specifically targeting learners who are not in education, employment, or training (NEETs). Evaluation focuses on usability, learner experience, pedagogical effectiveness, and the potential impact across diverse VET contexts.

A key innovation of the FAME project is the integration of an educational game that reinforces course content and enhances learner engagement through game-based progression and practical problem-solving activities. The project also includes a structured training-of-trainers programme to strengthen capacity, ensure high-quality delivery, and support long-term sustainability, with ongoing adjustments informed by implementation feedback.

Dissemination and exploitation are embedded throughout the project, including multiplier events aimed at VET providers and other key stakeholders. All project outputs will be freely accessible online as open educational resources, following Erasmus+ open access and licensing guidelines, allowing adaptation and reuse across similar VET contexts.

The first face-to-face meeting was held in Naples, Italy, from 12–13 February 2026, hosted by SMARTED. The University of Malta was represented by the principal investigator for this project, Dr Lorraine Portelli (Faculty of Education) together with Dr Zoi Arvanitidou (Faculty of Social Wellbeing) and Nicole Vella (RSO).

The meeting focused on shaping the course curriculum and pedagogical approach, as well as developing the Trainers’ Toolkit, with partners finalising learning outcomes, methodologies, and the overall toolkit structure. Subsequent discussions concentrated on quality assurance, evaluation strategies, and digitalisation, including the design of the FAME website and planning for the educational game.

Throughout the meeting, partners collaborated on content creation, feedback workflows, and dissemination strategies, laying the groundwork for the project’s next phase.
