The Centre for Resilience and Socio-Emotional Health is a partner of the new five-year HORIZON SUPPORT-Y – Supporting the Mental Health of Youth in Education, Training, and Work project funded by the HORIZON-CL2-2025-01-TRANSFO-08 Programme.
The project seeks to address the urgent need for mental health promotion among youth in education, training, and employment settings.
Responding to the “prevention” and “quality” gaps identified in earlier studies, it focuses on primary prevention by equipping young people with the knowledge and skills to support their own and shared mental well-being.
Guided by inclusive society principles, the interventions target diverse youth populations, including those at risk due to socio-economic status, disabilities, migration background, or gender-based vulnerabilities.
The project which is coordinated by the University of Eastern Finland, will co-create, pilot, and scale various interventions through collaboration with over 250 stakeholders across eight European countries, including Malta.
These interventions will be tested in schools, vocational institutions, and workplaces to ensure feasibility, accessibility, and cultural relevance.
Professor Carmel Cefai is the lead UM researcher, together with fellow researchers Dr Anna Grech and Professor Paul Bartolo.
Two part-time project support officers will be also recruited on the project for a period of five years.
