World Ocean Day: Keeping Watch on Our Ocean

On 8 June every year, people unite to celebrate the ocean. 

, celebrated globally, is a call to support marine conservation, marine restoration and ocean literacy while raising awareness about the crucial role that the ocean plays in sustaining life on Earth. 

According to Prof. Alan Deidun, from the University's Department of Geosciences within the Faculty of Sciences, also the Coordinator of the M.Sc. in Applied Oceanography offered by UM, 70% of the water is still largely unexplored. 

Enter the (OMRG), a research group dedicated to advancing oceanographic knowledge through applied research, teaching, and scientific engagement, making it the leading centre for oceanography research in the Maltese Islands.

In this reel, Prof. Alan Deidun and Prof. Adam Gauci take us through some of the many useful tools used by OMRG as well as students enrolled into the M.Sc. in Applied Oceanography, to monitor our oceans.
