On Thursday 25 February 2021, Rev. Dr Carl-Mario Sultana addressed a webinar for international experts in catechesis and academics in the realm of evangelisation. Attended by more than 60 participants from the five continents, the webinar ‘La catechesi nel processo di evangelizzazione a partire dal Direttorio’ was the second of a series of three online events organised by the Institute of Catechetics within the Salesian Pontifical University on the recently-published Directory for Catechesis.
In his presentation, Dr Sultana spoke about the relationship between the first proclamation and a kerygmatic catechesis. He highlighted how the new Directory does not speak of a first proclamation that takes place only once, at the beginning of the process of catechesis. Instead, the Directory for Catechesis, in line with the vision of Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation Evangelii Gaudium, proposes a first proclamation that needs to be revisited several times throughout the life of the interlocutor, especially in view of the different 'seasons' that one might experiences in his or her life.
Rev. Dr Carl-Mario Sultana is Head of the Department of Pastoral Theology, Liturgy and Canon Law within the Faculty of Theology.
