Dr Kay Polidano, Lecturer in the Department of Sociology, was invited to speak at a webinar organised by The Global Health Network on 6 February 2023. This event celebrated the launch of an ebook published by Frontiers in Public Health, titled ‘Public and community engagement in health science research: openings and obstacles for listening and responding in the majority world’. This e-book explores approaches taken by social scientists and researchers to promote co-production of knowledge in research conducted in low-and-middle income countries.
Dr Polidano presented a paper drawing on her post-doctoral work as part of ‘’; an applied global health programme seeking to improve physical and mental health outcomes in people with cutaneous leishmaniasis across Brazil, Ethiopia and Sri Lanka (funded by the UK’s National Institute for Health and Social Care Research. The talk highlighted the opportunities and challenges of engaging with community members using a decolonial approach. The audience was composed of researchers and community engagement practitioners based primarily in the Global South.
