On a recent visit on an ERASMUS+ ICM mobility to the Institute for International Trade at University of Adelaide (Australia), Prof. Susanna Thede from the Institute for European Studies at the UM participated in a range of activities ranging from meeting PhD students to discuss their research to giving an inaugural seminar on Sustainability in EU Trade Policy to policy makers, trade practitioners, people in the business community and students. The EU's trade policy is at center stage in Australia at the moment as the trade partners are negotiating a deep trade agreement and, importantly, as local government, businesses and innovators are working to meet green technology and sustainable production requirements set out by the EU. Primary objectives of the visit were the exchange of academic and policy-oriented practices to the benefits of students, local government and the private sector.
Research collaboration was initiated on international trade with particular relevance for current EU trade policy developments. Another party in the collaboration is Department of Economics at 脰rebro University School of Business (Sweden) where Professor Thede is a research affiliate. These academic institutions are working at the forefront of current trade policy developments (including services trade, digitisation and environmental issues) and the Institute for European Studies brings stark expertise on EU as leader in the area.
