During the last week of February, Dr Giselle Spiteri Miggiani represented the Department of Translation, Terminology and Interpreting Studies (UM) at the University of Roehampton and at the University of Essex, where she was invited to deliver lectures and seminars on audiovisual translation and film localisation at postgraduate level. This occasion was also meant to strengthen ties between UM and these UK universities, and to promote the M.A. in Translation and Terminology offered at UM.
Dr Spiteri Miggiani coordinates the Audiovisual Translation (AVT) Stream within the local postgraduate degree course. This newly introduced specialisation is practice-based and strives to pursue one of the Department鈥檚 main objectives which consists of bridging the gap between academia and the industry.
For this reason, in April the AVT students will participate in a field trip to London and visit translation and localisation companies. This field trip will provide an opportunity for the students to discover and try out the latest smart captioning technology at the National Theatre in London. The students will also participate in a round table meeting at UCL, together with established AVT professionals.
