On Friday, 4 March 2022, Albanian President, Ilir Meta and his team, visited the University of Malta campus. This was the first ever courtesy visit by the Albanian President at the University. Accompanying him were several professors from the .
University Rector, Professor Alfred J. Vella and Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs, Professor Joseph Cacciottolo greeted the President and the brief meeting was followed by a conversation between the Rector and the President.
The President praised Malta for excelling in having plentiful opportunities for businesses as well as international students. He complimented the work that the University is doing and all the undergoing research projects in collaboration with the EU.
President Ilir Meta looks forward to more collaborations with the University, especially with the University of Tirana, which is ranked as the best University of Albania. UM rector, Alfred J. Vella said that small countries such as Malta and Albania should collaborate even more since they are small countries, therefore this will benefit both parties. The was also mentioned, which facilitates agreements between Universities in Europe and ensures comparability in the standards and quality of higher-education qualifications.
The visit was extended to the MEDAC building where he received a warm welcome by the staff and Prof Stephen Calleya, Director at the Academy.
