Foresight Innovation and the Blue Economy - Forum Innovation Conference in Paris

Earlier this month, Dr Lisa Pace, from The Edward de Bono Institute for Creative Thinking and Innovation, was invited to speak at the Forum Innovation Conference hosted by EDC Business School in Paris. The conference focused on trajectories and perspectives of systemic innovations addressing topics around circular economy, sustainability and connectivity. Dr Pace presented her work on the role of foresight in navigating the sustainability of the blue economy. She discussed how developing foresight and futures thinking within blue economy research can enhance the capacity to navigate complexity, align innovation with sustainability priorities and create adaptive pathways for ocean governance.

Dr Pace also discussed the work in progress on the POSEIDON project, a collaborative initiative with the University of Algarve funded by the University of Malta SEA-EU Seed Grant programme. The project explores sustainability futures as strategic courses of action or pathways towards preferred future visions that are shaped by innovations and socio-ecological shifts. Dr Pace emphasised the importance of engaging stakeholders to navigate through the tensions and trade-offs when creating pathways to achieve sustainable futures.

At The Edward de Bono Institute, foresight and futures form a key research pillar within the Master’s in Creativity and Innovation and underpin Dr Pace’s research specialisation, centred on applying foresight to navigate complexity and support sustainable transformation. More information on the Masters can be found online.

POSEIDON – Exploring Pathways tOward Sustainable ocEan futures: tensIons, traDe-offs, and just transitiONs - is supported by the University of Malta’s SEA-EU Research Seed Fund programme.
