Dr Maria Brown represents Malta at EPALE Athens event on adult learning

Dr Maria Brown participated in the event 'Co-creating the Future of Adult Learning' held in Athens between 26-27 November 2025 in her role of Ambassador for Malta of the Electronic Platform for Adult Learning in Europe (EPALE), together with fellow Ambassador for Malta, Ramon Mangion.

The two-day programme offered a rich and engaging combination of reflection, exchange and collaborative planning. The event brought together around 70 on-site and 22 online participants representing national support services, adult education practitioners, researchers, and stakeholders from policy-making and public administration, creating a vibrant and diverse learning environment.

During this event, Dr Brown contributed to the workshop 'EPALE Mini-Kit: Outreach Strategies', which explored innovative ways to present EPALE across diverse professional contexts, highlighting both promising practices and the need for continued collaboration to develop practical outreach tools.

The event concluded with an imaginative backcasting exercise on EPALE 2035, which emphasised shared values of community, human connection and European cooperation, and underlined EPALE’s role in fostering a sustainable and inclusive learning society.

Dr Maria Brown is senior lecturer within the Department of Arts, Open Communities and Adult Education of the Faculty of Education, and UNESCO Co-Chair in Global Adult Education for the term 2026-2029.
