Prof. Sergio Portelli, from the Department of Translation, Terminology & Interpreting Studies of the Faculty of Arts, recently carried out an Erasmus+ ICM teaching mobility at the National University of Uzbekistan.
Hosted by Prof. Nilufar Sadullaeva, Head of the Department of Theory of Translation and Comparative Linguistics, Prof. Portelli delivered a series of lectures to MA students focusing on the unique challenges of translating lesser-used languages like Uzbek and Maltese. The sessions delivered by the UM academic explored critical themes including terminology, translation technologies, collaborative workflows, and indirect translation.
During the visit, Prof. Portelli also participated in the international conference on 'Indirect Translation: A Two-Arched Bridge between Cultures'. This event was a collaborative effort between the two departments and the Graduate Institute of Interpretation and Translation at Shanghai International Studies University, marking a milestone in a years-long partnership fostered by the Erasmus+ ICM mobility exchange programme.
